What should Taylor Swift’s next Era be?

Taylor Swift continues to break records with her Eras Tour. She’s already grossed over $1 billion dollars, brought the Taylor Swift Effect, “or a boost to local, state and national economies”, to 30+ cities with over 80 shows to date.

As Swifties know, the Era’s Tour started off with 10 Eras (or albums) that represent the highs and lows during that time of her life. Taylor is widely known for her honest, open writing style and engagement with fans through the easter eggs she includes in almost everything she does. Together, this creates a frenzy amongst fans or “Swifties” who continue to try to unravel these clues.

The singer released her new album in April and evolved her tour to include an 11th Era, The Tortured Poet’s Department.  What could be next for her? We took a look at our proprietary dataset, RYA, to uncover what her next Era should be.

While Taylor has many love songs to-date, her fans are not necessarily looking for another romance-focused album. Compared to the general population, Swifties are only slightly (13%) more likely to be interested in Romance. But, they’re also not looking for her to deviate too much from her image - they’re 40% less likely to be interested in tattoos.

So, what are they interested in?

Fans want more high energy entertainment filled with moments of surprise, and elaborate costumes. Burlesque is “based on scandalous humor, high glamor, and elaborate staging that mocks the male gaze”, something that Taylor has begun incorporating into this Era’s tour but could be pushed much further. She is already an expert at playing games with her fans through her use of easter eggs.

Her next Era is one that could tell a story about a new chapter of her life filled with victories: highlighting humor, leaning into her sexuality (on her terms rather than the media’s version), and showcasing how she’s turned every single challenge or game into a winning moment for her and her fans.
