As American as Apple Pie…Pets…and Roadtrips?
It’s no secret US politics have been pretty polarizing these last few elections. We thought we’d take a different approach—looking for common ground between Democrats, Republicans, and Independents.
To do this, we created audiences of Americans ages 18+ who said they were affiliated with each of the three parties. Then we looked at the 10 most popular genres for each group.
Turns out, there’s a lot we can all agree on. Trying to share an interest across the aisle? Democrats and Republicans both like weather. (Just don’t bring up climate change.) Need an unheated topic of conversation for Republicans and Independents? Stick to DIY projects. For Democrats and Independents, a conversation on documentaries will get them both excited.
And then there are the genres all three parties enjoy: cooking/baking/grilling, health & wellness, comedy, pets, road trips, technology, and history. Any one of these should keep conversations civil (and even enjoyable) the next time you see that uncle or coworker whose politics you disagree with.
RYA™ has been collecting data for the past several years with over 70,000 American respondents. We can tell you what any audience—down to 1% of the U.S. population—really wants to watch, read, buy, eat, play, see and experience.
These insights can help brands—and political parties—get in front of their audiences during key moments like elections with content that resonates.
